Greetings! We are busy planning the 2016 Chaparral Suzuki Academy, and are looking forward to another exciting, music-filled week. The Suzuki Academy will run from June 8-11 and will take place at Yavapai College in Prescott. We are looking forward to having many returning faculty members this year, and also want to welcome and introduce you to our new faculty members.
The piano program is happy to have Meredith Taylor join as piano coordinator and teacher. Meredith attended last summer as a parent with her two sons (both pianists), and brings her experience as a Suzuki student, parent, and teacher to our program. She has extensive teaching experience and maintains a private piano studio in Springfield, Missouri. She has a BM and MM in piano performance as well as Suzuki piano training. We are excited to welcome her as piano teacher this summer, and are thrilled that she had such a great time last summer that she wanted to come back as a faculty member.
We are also very excited that Henry Flurry will be returning to teach piano, before he spends the rest of his summer in Europe! He has been busy this Spring completing his Master’s degree in composition, congrats!
Connie Jahrmarkt and Laura Tagawa will return to teach violin classes. Laura will be busy as the CSA director, coordinator of the violin area, and teaching violin classes. Connie will be teaching violin, and we also look forward to learning her wonderful new fiddle arrangements.
Louise Scott was planning to return but unfortunately due to shoulder surgery this summer is not able to join us. We wish her a successful surgery and recovery and look forward to seeing her again in the future.
Her colleague from NAU, Jacqueline Schwandt, will be teaching violin and viola classes. Jackie is the viola professor at NAU and principal violist of the Flagstaff Symphony. She is accomplished as both a performer and teacher and we are excited to have her teach violin and viola this year (viola is new this year). Jackie also teaches violin to the NAU Academy students and shares violin students with Louise.
We also welcome Megyn Neff to the violin faculty. Megyn has a Suzuki violin studio in Phoenix and brings her enthusiasm and years of teaching experience to CSA.
For enrichment we welcome back Maria Flurry and Jonathan Best, and look forward to their creative, interactive, and fun musical experiences!

Although the registration deadline is a few weeks away (May 1), there are many plans that depend on the number of participants. Enrolling before the deadline would be MOST helpful to ensure a wonderful Suzuki institute. We hope you will join us this summer! As a small Suzuki Institute, we rely heavily on word of mouth advertising. We hope you will share our program with your friends and colleagues.
